The Euroborg Stadium with a capacity of 20,000 spectators is located in the southeast of Groningen, a university city in the north of the Netherlands. The stadium's visual perception features are such that it is part of a complex of structures, including two high-rise residential buildings, a school, a college, a cinema, a supermarket and a fitness center.

The Groningen Football Club plans to complement the exterior of the Euroborg stadium with architectural lighting in the evening hours. The aim of the work is to further develop the stadium as an attractive place to relax in its surroundings and with its surroundings. To strengthen the role of the stadium in the evening as a fragment of the urban environment at various levels of visual perception. The new stadium lighting should become an important part of the FC Groningen brand and, as one of the main urban dominants, highlight the new identity.

conception

Preliminary light color scenario on the main facade of the stadium during matches using GOBO projectors.

To attract attention or for latecomers, we install LED tubes on the facades of residential buildings that "count down" the time of the match - painted white at the start, they change their color to green every three minutes, providing information about the duration of the game, while GOBO projectors on the central part of the high-rises display the match score and the logos of the teams playing.

The idea is to chaotically install small architectural forms throughout the complex. The shape is made in the form of a silhouette of a football player and is based on real photographs of legendary FC Groningen players. The figures are made of bent metal and are illuminated at night. In this way, the club can express its gratitude to the players who have ever played for Groningen.
